Grandma's Recipe

Hey, Mona here!
One of the oldest recipes passed down from my grandmother to me is Samke Harra (spicy fish).  The ingredients for this dish are found in almost every household and it is very easy to make.

Ingredients
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 3 containers solid white tuna
  • 1 cup garlic cloves
  • 2 cups fresh coriander, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons hot sauce or more if desired

*Tip: You may use fish fillets, baked or fried, instead of the tuna.
Creating the dish:

  1. Peel and dice the potatoes into small cubes.
  2. You either deep fry the potatoes or oven roast them until they are fully cooked and golden-brown.
  3. Peel and mash the garlic cloves until they have a smooth consistency.
  4. Wash and drain the coriander.
  5. In a large pan, add the vegetable oil.
  6. Add the garlic and coriander, stir for one minute.
  7. Drain the tuna and add it to the pan.
  8. Stir until these ingredients are mixed well.
  9. Add a pinch of salt to taste.
  10. Add the potatoes and mix well.
  11. Add the hot sauce and stir the ingredients.
*Tip: If you are using the tuna that comes with oil, drain the oil in the pan and fry the garlic and coriander using that oil.  In this case, you do not need to add the vegetable oil.

Serve with a slice of lemon or lime
Enjoy!
